About Imus Greening the Cleaning® products
Today's cleaning products contain many chemicals that may be harmful to your
health and the health of your children. Because indoor pollutants are not as
easily dispersed as outdoor pollutants, concentrations of toxic chemicals may
be much greater indoors.
Health effects from some household products can be acute or chronic. Acute
effects are short-term and can include such symptoms as headaches, eye and/or
throat irritation, or even nausea. Acute effects also include triggering of
asthma attacks or allergic reactions. Chronic effects are those long term effects
such as cancer, chemicals that can affect the unborn, and neurotoxins (nervous
system effects).
Did You Know?
- Indoor air is often two to five times more contaminated than outdoor air.
- Childhood asthma has nearly doubled in the last 20 years (American Lung
Assoc.) and some cleaners may be triggers to asthma attacks.
- The average home contains 25 gallons of hazardous chemicals - a major portion
of these can be found in household cleaning products.
- Over 90% of all poisonings occur in the home.
- Cleaning products are involved in 11% of poisoning exposure in children
under 6 years of age.
- 82,000 synthetic chemicals are in production today. Many are suspected
to cause cancer or other health effects, but only 2% have been fully checked
by the EPA for safety.
Greening the Cleaning® means eliminating
to the greatest extent possible, all cleaning agents containing hazardous ingredients
and replacing them with environmentally responsible, less-toxic products that
utilize natural or naturally-derived ingredients, and ingredients from renewable
resources whenever possible.
